MUNICIPALITY INCREASED SPOTS IN VACATION PROGRAMS THIS SUMMER
In order to respond to the municipality's demographic growth and support families, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel has reinforced this summer the educational and recreational offerings during the holiday months, increasing the number of places in leisure time occupation programs, namely “Sítio dos Graúdos” and the Family Support Component (CAF).
The "Sítio dos Graúdos" program, an initiative of the Workers' Culture and Sports Center of the City Council and the Parish Council, with logistical and financial support from the Municipality, ran in July and August for preschool-age children (ages 3 to 6). In response to high demand in previous years, and with the support of the city council, the number of places was increased from 50 to 75, allowing more families to be supported during the holidays.
The Family Support Component (CAF), developed by the Municipality in partnership with the José Belchior Viegas School Group, the Parents' Association, and the "Teaching to Smile" association, was aimed at children in the first cycle of primary school. Here too, as a result of ongoing management, the program's capacity increased from 75 to 100 places, operating from 8:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with flexible enrollment by day, week, or fortnight.
At the end of the school holidays, the results of this edition, presented by the partnership, and similar to previous years, are quite positive for children, families, and the entire educational community. The positive results are also due to the collaborative work with local institutions, cultural and sports associations, and the generous contribution of volunteers who shared their time and knowledge. This collaborative network strengthened the activities, offering children unique, inclusive, and highly educational experiences, and highlighted the importance of partnerships in implementing the programs.
The increase in vacancies allowed these initiatives to reach even more children, reinforcing the programs' impact during the summer. This expansion was made possible thanks to the Municipality's commitment to mobilizing the necessary human resources through partner institutions, also ensuring the provision of meals and logistical support in schools.
