See the names of the Patrons of new schools in the municipality of Loulé

LÍDIA JORGE, CRISTÓVÃO NORTE AND ANTÓNIO DE SOUSA PONTES WILL BE PATRONS OF NEW SCHOOLS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF LOULÉ

The Loulé City Council has approved the development of preliminary programs for the construction of three new schools and the renovation of two educational establishments in the municipality. Writer Lídia Jorge, politician Cristóvão Guerreiro Norte, and economist António de Sousa Pontes will be the patrons of the newly built schools that will be built in Loulé, Almancil, and Quarteira, respectively.

Over the past few decades, the municipality has seen a sharp increase in its population and school-age population, primarily due to the arrival of immigrants to work in the hotel, retail, and construction sectors. The Loulé Educational Charter, a strategic document regarding education in this area, provides for new educational establishments to meet educational needs, particularly in the municipality's main urban centers, as this is where this population growth occurred.

Thus, two secondary schools, in Loulé and Almancil, and a primary school with a kindergarten are the buildings planned to strengthen the municipal school system. In terms of renovations, Dr. Laura Ayres Secondary School in Quarteira and Dr. António Sousa Agostinho Primary School in Almancil will be the target of intervention.

The proposal for the patrons who will name the future schools was also approved at a council meeting – Lídia Jorge, Cristóvão Guerreiro Norte, and António de Sousa Pontes. These three individuals distinguished themselves in the fields of literature, politics, and economics, and who will become part of the collective life of these school communities, serving as exemplars of excellent citizens for the students. This proposal, moreover, recognizes their contribution to the development and affirmation of local communities. This initiative also aims to contribute to the construction of the memory and identity of the municipality of Loulé, for example, through the study of the lives and works of these illustrious Loulé residents.

It should be noted that the preliminary program for each of these will serve as the foundation document for all subsequent operations. The new municipal executive is expected to begin work in November on finding an ideal location for the new educational establishments.
