The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel once again joins the “Grab Life” campaign, as part of Suicide Prevention Month.
This initiative reinforces the municipality's commitment to raising community awareness of this global issue, raising awareness of the active role that each person and each structure of society can play in preventing suicide and mental illness, contributing to reducing their stigma.
In this context, the "Liberdade" sculpture, located on Avenida da Liberdade, was once again decorated and illuminated in yellow, becoming a symbolic landmark to raise awareness and reflect on the importance of mental health. Similarly, the São Brás de Alportel City Council also adorned itself in this color, reinforcing the message of awareness and hope.
The “Grab Life” campaign is promoted worldwide by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Association for Suicide Prevention, with the support in Portugal of the National Coordination of Mental Health Policies, the Portuguese Society of Suicidology and, in the Algarve, the Regional Coordination of Mental Health, ULS Algarve, through its Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health, the Health Center Groups, as well as several local authorities and partner institutions.
The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel has been strengthening its intervention in this area through its Municipal Psychology Service. With this same goal, it partners with the Prometo Viver association, which, in its mission to help others in important causes, successfully helped the SOS VOZ Amiga association establish a new service center in the Algarve, which has a large number of new volunteers. Also in this vein, a new project was created in partnership with the ASMAL association to make mental health care more accessible: Emotionally.
