São Brás de Alportel celebrates the feminine universe throughout the month of March with a series of events and initiatives that are a true tribute to the strength, inspiration and contribution of women in society.
During Women's Month, the City Council and several partner organizations are promoting a series of initiatives that encourage reflection, sharing, and appreciation of the women who mark our history and our daily lives.
The program kicks off this Friday, March 7th, at 6:30 pm, at the Dr. Estanco Louro Municipal Library, with the session "Conversations with History – Women of April," led by Dr. Helena Cabeçadas. This is an opportunity to remember the fundamental role of women in the fight for freedom, with a special appearance by the (In)sustainable Theater Group.
A first-person encounter also took place this morning at José Belchior Viegas Secondary School. Both activities are part of the São Brasense Commemoration Program for the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974.
This Saturday, March 8, attention turns to the Municipal Market and other spaces in the municipality, where commemorative activities will take place that give a stage to women and their achievements.
On Thursday, March 13, at 2:30 pm, the Municipal Library will host the meeting “Women in the Toponymy of São Brás de Alportel”, promoted by the Municipal Office for Equality, which will introduce the women who have left their mark on the streets of the municipality.
On March 22nd, the São Brás de Alportel Municipal Market will host a "Self-Defense Demonstration for Women." This activity is organized by the RADAR Program in partnership with the São Brás de Alportel Martial Arts Club. This initiative will provide participants with essential tools for their safety and self-confidence.
March 29th has two special events in store: the “Gastronomic Demonstration in Women's Clothing”, led by Chef Marlene Fialho and waitress Elisabete Santos, and the “Orienteering Competition – São Brás in Women's Clothing”, which will begin at 10:00 am, at Largo de São Sebastião, challenging participants to follow a route inspired by the lives and stories of notable women from the municipality.
Throughout the month, the municipality's schools will also host an educational and interactive activity: "Game – The Constitution as an Instrument of Equality," which aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of fundamental rights and gender equality.
This program demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Municipality and its partners to the equality, recognition and celebration of women.
