São Brás de Alportel celebrates the 32nd edition of the Feira da Serra with tradition, youth and sustainability

Scheduled to begin this Thursday, July 24, the Serra de São Brás de Alportel Fair returns for another edition full of identity, innovation and celebration of biodiversity, with bees as the central theme for 2024.

The event, which is already a regional reference, promotes the appreciation of endogenous products, local culture and the economy of the Algarve's interior for four days.

During the fair's official presentation, City Council President Vítor Guerreiro emphasized that this is an event with a soul, created with the community and for the community. "We have many residents, both Portuguese and foreign, who have come to know São Brás through the Feira da Serra. This is an event that strengthens our region's self-esteem and has a real impact on the local economy," he stated, also highlighting the investments in safety, hygiene, accessibility, and organization that ensure the well-being of visitors.

Vice-president Marlene Guerreiro, who also chairs the organizing committee, reinforced the municipality's pride in the strong youth participation: "We give young people a platform, not only in the youth area, but also on the main stage. This year, we will have four groups with São Brasense roots, including the debut of Beatriz Pereira's solo project."

Councilman David Gonçalves emphasized the event's role in promoting environmental values and rural life. "The Feira da Serra is a platform that promotes our products and our people and draws attention to the importance of protecting what is authentic, like bees, which are vital to environmental balance," he emphasized.

Manuel Francisco Dias, president of the Eastern Algarve Beekeepers Association, shared an emotional insight into his connection with bees and the voluntary practice of beekeeping from an early age. "Bees teach us to live in community. If they hadn't survived, I wouldn't have had the life I've had," he stated.

Paulo Ventura, a technician with the same association, warned of the urgent need to rethink the current agricultural model: "We, beekeepers, provide a vital service to agriculture, often without due recognition. Bees die quickly. And what about us? We're also living in contaminated environments. We need to change our mindset and focus on more environmentally friendly agriculture."

This year, the organization increased the number of ticket offices and food courts, offering more variety and comfort. Additionally, an identification bracelet for children was created, which has been a success, ensuring greater safety for families.

With coordination between neighboring municipalities to avoid overlapping anchor events, São Brás is positioned as the center of attention in the region during this last week of July. The fair features dozens of exhibitors, musical performances, local cuisine, an animal park, crafts, and activities for all ages.

Tickets are available online at a discount and are also available on-site. There are daily tickets, four-day passes, and family tickets.

The Feira da Serra takes place between July 24th and 27th and promises to once again fill the heart of the Algarve with tradition, innovation and community.
