The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel celebrates the 114th anniversary of the Establishment of the Republic next Saturday, October 5, with the inauguration of the Gallery of Presidents of the Municipality, which was founded in 1914, “son” of the Republic.
The ceremonies begin at 10:00 am with the National Flag Raising Ceremony by the São Brás de Alportel Fire Department to the sound of the National Anthem performed by the São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band.
The program continues at 10:10 am in the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho, where the solemn commemorative session will take place, which will include the inauguration of the Gallery of Presidents, which aims to pay tribute to the personalities who have led the municipality, in its various municipal bodies, since 1914. In total, fifty citizens will be honored, including the administrators of the municipality (from 1914 to 1934), the Presidents of the Executive Committee that operated until the establishment of the Military Dictatorship, that is, from 1914 to 1926; the presidents of the Municipal Chamber (from 1914 to the present day) and also the presidents of the Municipal Assembly, a municipal body that emerged after the Revolution of April 25, 1974.
The Municipal Presidents Gallery, as a new element of heritage and tourist interest, open to the public, complements the Municipal Memory Space, enriching the São Brás de Alportel Memory Route.
