The Municipality Day of São Brás de Alportel will be marked with a very
well filled with proposals for everyone, free entry, between May 30th and May 1st
June. The official ceremonies, with emphasis on the now customary awarding of insignia
municipal and for the presentation of the urban center renewal strategy are
highlights of this program that features moments of excitement for the entire
family, another step in the “people and memories” initiative and an unmissable concert
by Fernando Daniel, followed by the always eagerly awaited fireworks display,
signed by the young talent from São Bras, Tiago Aires, renewing the tradition.
With 111 years of history, the municipality of São Brás de Alportel celebrates its anniversary with a
commemorative program open to the entire community, which combines the solemnity of traditions with
joy of music, art and intergenerational interaction.
The celebrations culminate on June 1st, Municipality Day, with a set of initiatives that
begin at 10:00, in Jardim Lourenço Viegas, with the official flag raising ceremony,
to the sound of the National Anthem performed by the São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band, with the
collaboration of the Volunteer Firefighters of São Brás de Alportel.
At 10:15, in Parque Roberto Nobre, a mural will be unveiled commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of
April, carried out by students from the José Belchior Viegas School Group, which provides
tribute to the values of freedom and democracy.
At 10:30, Jardim Carrera Viegas hosts the Commemorative Solemn Session, under the motto
“Urban Rehabilitation, a Quality of Life Strategy for All.” This moment includes
presentation of the Urban Center Renewal Strategy, the signing of the Deed of
Assignment of the 2nd phase of the rehabilitation works of the historic center and the allocation of
Municipal Badges, recognizing the merit and dedication of citizens and local entities.
During the afternoon, between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, the same garden transforms into a space for
joy with the Children's Party, offering fun and educational activities for the youngest
small. At 4:00 p.m., the usual moment of homage takes place with the pilgrimage to
mausoleum of the founder of the municipality, João Rosa Beatriz, in the Municipal Cemetery.
This will be followed at 4:30 pm by the inauguration of the exhibition “São Brás de Alportel, People and Memories –
Part 3: Social Life”, at the Municipal Gallery, a testament to the human and cultural wealth of the
municipality.
The highlight of the celebrations takes place at night: at 10 pm, Praça da República hosts the concert
commemorative of Fernando Daniel, one of the most popular artists today, followed by
a fireworks display, which will bring this special date for the Saints to a grand close.
