The Carrera Viegas Garden, south of the São Brás de Alportel Health Center, will undergo renovation work, aiming to enhance this space, which is part of the town's history and identity.
For the sum of 489,581.37 euros, the company Martins Gago e filhos, Lda, was awarded this work, which has a completion deadline of six months after the start of work.
After a long journey, with competitions that were deserted, the project is moving forward to execution, as part of the municipal strategy to promote accessibility “São Brás Accessible for All”.
This project includes a set of improvements aimed at enhancing the quality of public spaces, promoting mobility and accessibility for all, safety and quality of life, as well as creating better green spaces, with emphasis on the introduction of native species and water-saving measures, in favor of better water efficiency.
The project includes the enhancement of all routes and the introduction of new routes that enable the connection between different spaces, the creation of a functionally suitable space, formally sober and balanced, of medium construction and simple maintenance, the promotion of native vegetation and the minimization of water consumption, the reformulation of the irrigation system, the enhancement of the permeability of the space and the creation of new areas for staying and leisure.
The intervention also includes the creation of new toilet facilities, the installation of a support kiosk, with a terrace area, as well as the installation of new benches, waste bins, recycling bins and picnic tables, and the redesign of the play and recreation area.
The playground will feature a multipurpose airplane-shaped piece of equipment, evoking memories of the time when the garden housed an old military plane. The playground will also include a new swing, the installation of balance elements, the installation of a climbing pyramid, and the replacement of the fence.
The intervention will transform Jardim Carrera Viegas into an inclusive, sustainable and attractive public space, which promotes coexistence, leisure and well-being of the community, reinforcing the urban identity of São Brás de Alportel.
Construction work will begin soon and will return to the population a renovated garden, designed for all generations.
