Portugal with more than 30 triathletes in the Quarteira European Cups

More than 750 triathletes competed on the weekend of March 29th and 30th, spread across two European Cups and the Portuguese Cup.

There are 38 members of the Portuguese triathlon team that will participate in the Elite and Junior European Cups in Quarteira on March 29 and 30. Around 150 triathletes, both women and men, will compete, representing more than 20 countries.

"Quarteira is truly pleased to once again host this event, a highlight of the event calendar, not only for the sport but also for this city, and which plays an important role in the local economy, particularly for the hotel, retail, and restaurant industries. I once again express my gratitude to the Portuguese Triathlon Federation, the local organizing committee, and the European Federation for the opportunity to host this international competition annually, which is a source of great pride for Quarteira and the entire municipality of Loulé," emphasizes president Vítor Aleixo.

The elite women's race will take place on Saturday, March 29th, at 1:45 pm, and will feature Melanie Santos and Maria Tomé, the two Olympic triathletes who represented Portugal in Paris 2024. In the men's race, the Portuguese team will feature eight triathletes, including Ricardo Batista, an Olympic athlete who finished 6th in Paris. The race will begin at 4:30 pm in front of the Dom José Hotel in Quarteira.

During the awards ceremony, at 6:30 p.m., the Portuguese Triathlon Federation will take the opportunity to recognize the four triathletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as well as honor athletes João Pereira and João Silva for their contributions to Portuguese triathlon and Olympism throughout their careers.

"Quarteira will always hold a special place in the history of Portuguese triathlon. That's why we decided it would make perfect sense to take advantage of the weekend to honor the Olympic careers of triathletes who are symbols of the sport, as well as to thank the new generation for their exemplary contribution to the Paris Olympic Games. It will undoubtedly be another excellent day promoting sport, triathlon, and the warm welcome of the people of the municipality of Loulé." highlights the president of the Portuguese Triathlon Federation, Fernando Feijão.

On Sunday, March 30th, the Junior European Cup will be held, as well as the Portuguese Cup, which will be attended by more than 600 triathletes.
