Faro Municipal Police have already started their activity

The Faro Municipal Police began its activity on April 8th, with the inauguration of its operational headquarters located in the space of the former Chocolate café, in Praça da Liberdade (Pontinha).

This municipal police force, which will work closely with the PSP and GNR, will have as its main mission the promotion of security and protection of the well-being of the population, prioritizing proximity policing and visibility throughout the municipality, including islands.

Currently operating with a staff of 10 officers, the Faro Municipal Police will operate on a single shift, with the goal of eventually operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At this stage, the Faro Municipal Police's duties will focus on proximity and visibility policing, particularly at events, businesses, schools, and the most vulnerable population (the elderly and children). This municipal security force will gradually take on new tools and functions over the coming months, including road enforcement and enforcement of municipal regulations, among others.

To this end, and in parallel, the Municipality of Faro is also conducting an external recruitment process for new municipal officers for the Municipal Police, which is expected to have a fully functional force of 30 officers. Candidates accepted through this process are expected to begin training in early summer. After a lengthy process, the Municipality of Faro welcomes the commencement of operations of the Faro Municipal Police, a municipal force that, in close collaboration with national security forces, will help address the municipality's security challenges and contribute to a more organized and safer city.
