Gastronomic Demonstration elevates the experience with the art of the dining room chefs
The São Brás de Alportel Municipal Market has been transformed, on the last Saturday of each month, since 2011, into a true stage of irresistible aromas and flavors.
Last Saturday, the 29th, the last Saturday of March, the Market's Flavors Stage hosted another Gastronomic Demonstration, this time with the participation of chef Marlene Freira and also with the presence of room assistant Elisabete Santos, starting a new strategy to value this professional sector of the utmost importance.
This initiative, which has been a showcase for the talented work of the municipality's chefs, cooks, and pastry chefs, is now expanding with the inclusion of wait staff. This recognition highlights the essential role of this profession in the hotel and restaurant industry, valuing the complete experience that encompasses both culinary art and excellent service.
Held monthly on the last Saturday of each month, the initiative has challenged local chefs for over 14 years to create simple, affordable recipes using fresh ingredients purchased directly from market stalls. By using seasonal produce, the event reinforces the importance of local products, boosts commerce, and celebrates Algarve cuisine, preserving the region's identity.
The book "Cycle of Flavors at the Municipal Market of São Brás de Alportel" is already a success, heading towards a 2nd series
Featuring 94 culinary demonstrations held between 2011 and 2019, the book "Cycle of Flavors at the Municipal Market of São Brás de Alportel" brings together recipes from 77 chefs, 46 of whom are from São Brás. Organized by the four seasons, the book pays homage to regional cuisine, highlighting the use of fresh, local produce purchased directly from the Municipal Market.
Launched as part of the Municipal Market Promotion Program, within the scope of the intermunicipal project to create the Local Markets Network, coordinated by Vicentina – Association for the Development of the Southwest, with funding from CRESC ALGARVE 2020, this work reflects the chefs' passion for local cuisine and the use of regional products, celebrating the region's gastronomic heritage.
Launched in July 2024, the book "Ciclo de Sabores no Mercado Municipal de São Brás de Alportel" aims to inspire and promote Algarve cuisine, in conjunction with the Gastronomic Demonstrations. Committed to showcasing local products and the region's gastronomy, this project maintains monthly editions, continuing to attract a growing audience to the market.
