On February 14, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel delivered a vote of praise to the young athlete from São Brás, Mafalda Marreiros, who at the age of 13 already has an extraordinary history of achievements in athletics..
A young student, she balances her time between her studies and her passion for sports. She began participating in athletics at school in 2018 and became a registered athlete in 2021, joining the Clube Oriental de Pechão.
In the 2022/2023 sports season, in the children's category (Under 14), she distinguished herself in Athletics, both as a federated athlete representing Clube Oriental de Pechão, and in School Sports, representing the José Belchior Viegas de São Brás de Alportel School Group, in both cases, with very positive results.
In 2023, he reached the podium numerous times, achieving excellent individual classifications in running and cross-country, especially in the Algarve and also in southern Spain, where the following stand out, among many others:
> on January 4th, winning 1st place in the school cross country;
>on April 5th, being 1st place in the XVII Freedom Race – Portimão;
>on April 29th, being 2nd place in the XX Odiáxere Grand Prix;
> on December 30th, as 1st place in the I Carrera Popular de Villanueva de los Castillejos, Spain;
> on December 31st, the last title of the year, as 2nd place in the 48th São Silvestre da Amadora Race.
In the collective awards, the highlight goes to 3rd place, obtained in the middle distance in the national School Sports championships that took place in Óbidos, in May 2023.
She was recently awarded 3rd place in the Regional Under-14 Tournament, at the 61st anniversary ceremony of the Algarve Athletics Association, held on January 10, 2024.
In the current 2023/2024 season, it is already integrated into the U16 beginners' category, where a promising sporting career is foreseen.
Taking into account her career and achievements, which confirm her determination to succeed and consolidate the practice of athletics, exemplified by the excellent results achieved at the level of school sports, the salutary example she sets for other young people and the way she has elevated the name of São Brás de Alportel and made the São Brás community proud, the municipal executive approved the awarding of a vote of praise to this young athlete.
