São Brás de Alportel inaugurated on Tuesday, December 17, the Monument to Knowledge, a work that celebrates the transformative power of education and youth. Located in Rotunda do Saber, this sculptural ensemble resulted from an ideas competition launched by the City Council for young students who are part of the Youth Assembly and was created by sculptor Carlos de Oliveira Correia.
The monument is composed of a set of sculptural works by the sculptor Carlos de Oliveira Correia based on the idea launched by the 8th A class of the 2022/23 school year of the José Belchior Viegas School Group who dedicated their work, vision and creativity to the creation of this monument in honor of education.
In the rotunda, two sculptures of young students were installed, heading towards another sculptural piece, which is composed of a book that supports the world.
During the inauguration, Mayor Vitor Guerreiro reminded the many young people present that "the knowledge you take with you into the future is your greatest wealth." The Algarve Regional Education Delegate, Carla Alexandra Fernandes, highlighted the monument as a symbol of the importance of education and the active voice of young people in São Brás de Alportel, praising the municipality's dynamic and the role of the Youth Assembly.
