1st Conference on Physiotherapy Applied to Neurology in the Algarve in São Brás de Alportel

São Brás de Alportel hosted the first edition of the Algarve Applied Physiotherapy in Neurology Conference. The São Brás CineTeatro Jaime Pinto hosted this pioneering initiative in the region. An initiative of the Southern Medicine and Rehabilitation Center (CMR Sul) and the São Brás de Alportel City Council, in partnership with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, took place on July 5th and 6th.

For two days, an excellent panel of national and international experts addressed current and highly relevant topics, from multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease to post-stroke rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury, primary care, and exercise prescription for neurological conditions. The program's coherence and scientific quality kept the audience motivated and engaged, reinforcing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to neurological rehabilitation.

One of the highlights of this event was the workshop “Multimodal exploration of movement experiences integrated into functional activities: applicability,” which provided practical application of the shared knowledge.

The overall assessment was very positive, with many participants only regretting the short duration of this session.

Among the main conclusions is the need to strengthen networking between different healthcare units, fostering more effective and integrated care. The exchange of experiences between professionals from different regions of the country and sectors—public, private, and long-term care—helped broaden horizons and create new synergies. A proposal was also made to evolve the format of the Algarve Rehabilitation Conferences, expanding the scope and participation to other rehabilitation professionals.

The event brought together approximately 100 participants, a number considered very positive by the organizers. This attendance confirms the growing interest in the field of neurological physiotherapy, with even broader participation expected for future editions with more advance notice.

The CMR Sul reaffirms its commitment to training and scientific excellence, establishing itself as a reference center in the promotion of evidence-based practice and in the valorization of the role of neurological rehabilitation in Portugal.
