Algarve Cave Biodiversity Hotspot to Host Exhibition in Lisbon

The photographic exhibition “Algarve | Cave Biodiversity Hotspot”, by António Luís Campos, produced by the Municipal Galleries of Loulé, travels to Lisbon, and will be on display at the National Museum of Natural History and Science, from October 10th until December.

National Geographic Portugal photographer António Luís Campos showcases a unique territory, centered in the Vale Telheiro Cave, in the municipality of Loulé, where the law of the fittest prevails: fearsome pseudoscorpions, agile centipedes, and tiny spiders share a rugged habitat, full of secrets that are only now beginning to be revealed, contributing invisibly to the region's environmental balance.

This cave, studied by biologist Ana Sofia Reboleira, is a global hotspot for cave biodiversity, with more than 25 known troglobite species, which could reveal future applications in medicine, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, or industry.

The inauguration is scheduled for Thursday, the 9th, at 5:00 pm, and will include a lecture.
