Next week, an awareness campaign will be launched to ensure that the MED'24 Festival is a 0% event for cigarette butts.
Even before the event opens, on June 25th, starting at 9:30 a.m., at the entrance to the Loulé Municipal Market, a cleanup campaign organized by the Biataki Network will begin throughout the Historic Zone, where the MED Festival will take place. The goal is to clear all cigarette butts from the ground so that, when the MED Festival begins, the venue will be completely free of this waste.
Those interested in participating in the activity can register at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeUPgociDT3ofMeF5AcSd13m_91ZVoD0vEzfT2vH_BMt9D3Kg/viewform
During the event, festival-goers will receive pocket-sized eco-ashtrays made from dried sugarcane and recycled cork. Lightweight, practical, and handcrafted, this eco-ashtray is also a symbol of environmental sustainability, embodying the best of standards: local, artisanal, and sustainable production, a natural and biodegradable product, and a circular economy product. Smokers will thus have a convenient place to put their cigarette butts instead of throwing them on the floor.
Throughout the Festival grounds there will also be upcycling equipment for the selective collection/storage of cigarette butts.
This is another environmental initiative that the MED Festival organizers are introducing with the aim of reducing the green footprint of this event, which is essentially about caring for the planet.
