With a 25-year concession, Faro City Council approved the right to use the urban building in Largo da Sé to house the Press Museum and preserve the entire collection, with management being the responsibility of the Municipality..
Faro City Council approved, at the last council meeting, the acceptance of the free transfer of the surface right, of the area of 781.80 m2, of the urban building, intended for services, located in Largo da Sé (nos. 15 and 16, nos. 12, 14 and 16, and Rua Monsenhor Boto, nos. 1, 3 and 5), to be celebrated between the Diocese of Algarve and the Municipality of Faro.
The transfer will be made for a period of 25 years and, in return, the municipality will be responsible for rehabilitating the property, with a view to installing the Press Museum and preserving the entire collection that will be part of the collection, with management being the responsibility of the municipality and the Faro Municipal Museum.
It should be remembered that the Municipality of Faro and the Diocese of Algarve signed, on September 7th, as part of the City Day celebrations, the protocol that provides for the installation of this exhibition structure in the former space of Tipografia União, on a permanent basis, which will ensure the safeguarding, valorization and dissemination of the graphic heritage resulting from the Tipografia União workshop, simultaneously making known the fact that Faro was the birthplace of the press in Portugal, with the printing of the book Pentateuch, in Hebrew, on June 30th, 1487.
In a press release, the municipality also recalls that the study for the museum's creation was awarded to the University of Algarve, which included the collection and inventory of the documentary and industrial collections, followed by a preliminary exhibition program defining content, suggested pieces, budgets, and resources. The municipality also provided a diagnosis of the building's condition and proposed interventions, an inventory of the collection, and the organization of the Folha de Domingo's documentation.
