Exhibitions in Loulé and Quarteira celebrate the Carnation Revolution

Two exhibitions commemorating the Carnation Revolution will open next Saturday, July 13, in the cities of Loulé and Quarteira.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the April 25th Revolution in Loulé, these two exhibitions are by photographer Luiz de Carvalho. Through his unique lens, the photographs invite us to revisit this pivotal moment in Portuguese history, reliving memories and reflecting on its impact on contemporary society.

The exhibitions, titled "PORTUGUESES" and "50DE25," feature a collection of photographs taken by Luiz de Carvalho during this period of transformation. The images portray the euphoria, hope, and uncertainty that marked this period, offering an invaluable visual testament to a time of profound social and political turmoil.

For Luiz de Carvalho, these exhibitions represent more than just a collection of photographs. They are living memories of a time of change and optimism, a tribute to the struggle for freedom, and a reminder of the importance of defending the democratic values we have won with so much sacrifice.

Luiz de Carvalho is a Portuguese photographer with a career spanning over 50 years. His work documents Portugal's recent history, with particular emphasis on the Carnation Revolution. His photographs have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, and he has received several awards, including the Gazeta Journalism Award in 1991 and the Visão Award in 2005.

The presentation will be led by João Soares, former Minister of Culture and editor of Perspectivas e Realidades.

The "PORTUGUESES" exhibition opens at 6:00 p.m. at the Espírito Santo Convent Art Gallery in Loulé. The "50DE25" exhibition opens at 7:00 p.m. at the Praça do Mar Art Gallery in Quarteira.
