The mayor of Loulé handed over the keys to five new homes in Salir to residents this Wednesday, December 27th. Five families will benefit from the integrated solutions outlined in the municipality's 2019-30 Local Housing Strategy, marking another step toward solving one of the country's most pressing housing problems.
Located across from the Salir Community Center in the town center, these two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments were offered as affordable rentals. A competition for these units was launched in 2023, and the beneficiaries were selected according to the eligibility criteria stipulated in the municipal regulations.
This work represented an investment of around 630 thousand euros, with financing from the PRR.
"It's a great joy and a very happy moment for those who have been selected, of course, but also for this Municipality. It's a clear sign that our housing policy is beginning to bear tangible fruit and will continue to do so in the near future, as we have several ongoing projects and various projects under development, ensuring that we can quickly fulfill what we consider to be a fundamental right of our citizens," emphasized Loulé City Council Mayor Vítor Aleixo.
Since 2015, nearly 48 families from the municipality of Loulé have been rehoused under the Local Housing Strategy (ELH). The goal is to find 1,400 housing solutions for those most in need by 2030.
Today, Housing Minister Marina Gonçalves visited the municipality of Loulé for a meeting with municipal officials to review the work being done, particularly through PRR funds and the 1º Direito program. It should be noted that Loulé was one of the first municipalities in the country to join this government program.
The minister then visited the Loulé Municipal Neighborhood "Frederico Ulrich", where the first phase of the expansion and renovation of 18 houses is underway. This project is part of the Municipality of Loulé's Local Housing Strategy 2019-2030 and will involve an investment of around €3 million (€2,603,679.03 financed by the PRR and €332,345.51 by the Municipality).
Not far from the neighborhood, next to the Rock Salt Mine, Marina Gonçalves had the opportunity to see the most emblematic project of this Local Housing Strategy, the Clona Urbanization. The project has been underway for several months, having been launched by the Minister of Housing herself in June, who laid the first stone. Now she has been able to witness firsthand the progress of the work, which is progressing at a brisk pace.
Currently, 64 homes are under construction (34 are for affordable rentals and the rest for supported rentals), but the project foresees a total of 128 homes that will provide housing not only for the population with the greatest financial need, but also for the middle class, such as young professionals or professionals displaced in the region.
The total value of the work is 11.2 million euros, with co-financing of 4.2 million euros from the PRR.
On this tour of Loulé, the governor passed through Salir where, in addition to the 5 homes already handed over to families, there are 12 more homes under construction in this town in the interior of the Algarve.
