Renovation and Accessibility Work Progresses on Rua Carrera Viegas. The intervention aims to make the road more accessible and safe, improve driving conditions circulation and contribute to the enhancement of the urban environment
As part of the urban renewal strategy for São Brás de Alportel that the municipality has been developing, expanding the network of accessible sidewalks to promote accessibility and mobility for all, the implementation of a stage of this ambitious plan progressed on February 18, this time on Rua Carrera Viegas.
Located in the heart of the town's urban center, this road plays a key role in connecting Jardim Carrera Viegas and the Health Center, two essential spaces for the local community.
The redevelopment of this artery aims to promote more inclusive and safe mobility, ensuring better circulation conditions, especially for people with reduced mobility, in addition to enhancing the urban environment.
The project involves a municipal investment of €147,034.77, plus VAT, and will take 120 days to complete. The work, awarded to JJ Brito – Sociedade de Construções, Lda., involves standardizing and modernizing the street's urban design, improving pedestrian pathways to provide accessible connections between different areas, reevaluating existing vegetation to promote native vegetation, and minimizing water consumption.
The project also includes the addition of more trees along the street, the installation of new streetlights, waste bins, and vertical signage, and the connection between the garden and the health center through street re-profiling. To improve road safety, the project will reduce the travel lane to 4 meters and implement one-way traffic.
The project includes paving with granite grating, an innovative solution, at the same level as the sidewalks, creating a single platform for circulation; transitions between levels through ramped access and the creation of drainage gutters along the road.
This investment aims to improve the quality of life of São Bras residents, consolidate its urban development strategy, enhance its public spaces, and promote a more modern, safe, and accessible town for all.
