LOULÉ HOSTS PRESENTATION OF BOOK THAT BRINGS TOGETHER INTERVIEWS WITH JOSÉ MÁRIO BRANCO
“José Mário Branco – Interviews for the press 1970 – 2019” is the name of the work that will be presented by António Fragoso and António Branco, on June 19th, at 7 pm, in the Main Hall of the Loulé City Council.
Bringing together 119 interviews for the press, this work makes accessible the unusual self-reflective dimension of José Mário Branco throughout 49 of his more than 50 years of musical activity.
These conversations, organized here chronologically (1970-2019) by Ricardo Andrade, Hugo Castro, and António Branco, explore several essential themes in the career of one of Portugal's most prominent musicians and composers. These range from more specifically musical issues, such as the stylistic transformations of musical repertoires, the world of phonographic recordings, and reflections on the social functions of song, to broader ones, such as his political activity, the successes and failures of various left-wing movements, the various obstacles he encountered along the way, and his foray into other artistic fields, particularly theater and film.
