“EmotionallyMental”: a new response in supporting mental health

In São Brás de Alportel, the “EmocionalMente” project is advancing, resulting from a solidarity partnership and aiming to make mental health care accessible to everyone.

This pilot project, which is progressing in the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, envisages the creation of a Network of Mental Health Service Points, ensuring clinical psychology consultations for young people and adults, at a nominal cost, in order to make this care accessible also to those with lower incomes.

The project also includes awareness-raising activities and ongoing assessment of the needs of the population served. The goal is to address the lack of mental health teams for the younger population by offering accessible psychological support and promoting early and effective intervention.

Aware that mental health is an essential pillar of quality of life, the municipality has been strengthening services in this area through the Municipal Psychology Service. The main focus is to promote improvements in the quality of life and mental health of the population, ensuring a swift and effective response, especially for those in urgent need of psychological support.

The implementation of this project was made possible by the signing of a protocol between the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, the Prometo Viver Association, and the Algarve Mental Health Association (ASMAL). Under this protocol, the Municipality provides the necessary infrastructure for the project's implementation, while ASMAL will be responsible for providing clinical psychology professionals and carrying out awareness-raising and prevention activities. The Prometo Viver Association, in turn, is providing funding for the project, allocating half of the funds raised at the 2024 "Prometo Viver" charity event, totaling €16,935.88.

With this tripartite collaboration, the municipality takes a significant step toward ensuring that mental health is an effective and accessible priority for all.
