Construction of the 4 Roads Roundabout in Olhão

Work begins this week to renovate Avenida D. João VI, at the intersection with Dâmaso da Encarnação and 18 de Junho streets.

The project, which involves the construction of a roundabout in the area known as Quatro Estradas, represents a municipal investment of approximately 600,000 euros and is expected to last four months.

Once completed, the roundabout will improve traffic flow on all arteries in the area and offer better safety conditions for pedestrians.

In addition to increasing the number of lanes, the entire surrounding area will undergo a major renovation, including the continuation of the parking area, the refurbishment of the pedestrian network and lighting, the implementation of ecological islands, as well as landscaping throughout the area.

The long-awaited intervention will, while the work continues, present some restrictions to car traffic, which will have to be diverted via an alternative route, as shown in the map below.

The mayor, António Miguel Pina, recalls that "this is a long-awaited intervention and that, once completed, and together with the new Bypass and the end of tolls on Via do Infante, it will be the starting point for a more in-depth requalification, which will return the avenue to the people of Olhão, ceasing to be a connecting artery between the Barlavento and Sotavento regions, as is the case today."
