Conference at the Archive takes a journey through Loulé in the 20th century

Another conference, "LOULÉ on the Timeline," will take place on October 19th at 3:00 p.m. at the Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães Municipal Archives. Paulo Batista will present the lecture, "Traces of Life in Loulé in the 20th Century: Geography, Activities, and Heritage."

This presentation proposes a journey through the 20th century, with the aim of understanding the evolution of the municipality during this period, with regard to its geography and cultural heritage (intangible, movable and immovable), which urgently needs to be preserved and valued.

From the variety of landscapes, from the coast to the barrocal, from the mountains to the cliffs, from the agricultural areas to the sea, as well as its inhabitants and economic activities, where – alongside artisanal fishing and small-scale agriculture – tourism assumes a prominent role, but also traditions and artistic expressions, architecture, monuments and sites.

Paulo Batista is an integrated researcher at CIDEHUS.UÉ, where he coordinates the Heritage and Literacies Research Group. He is a professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, where he coordinates the postgraduate programs in Architectural Archives and Cultural and Educational Promotion and Dynamization in Archives and Libraries. He is a senior technician at the Lisbon Municipal Archives and is also a Corresponding Academic of the Portuguese Academy of History.
