Faro City Council returns to awarding scholarships

Applications open from November 1st to 30th

The Municipality of Faro informs that those interested in scholarships for the 2024/2025 academic year may apply from November 1 to 30, 2024. These grants are intended for secondary and higher education students enrolled in undergraduate or master's degrees residing in the municipality who lack their own resources to continue their studies.

As has been the case in previous years, scholarships will be awarded in a number not exceeding 16, for students of Portuguese nationality residing in the municipality, and a maximum of two, for students from Portuguese-speaking countries or cities twinned with the city of Faro, with the jury then being responsible for distributing this number, with at least one scholarship being awarded per year, provided that it meets the conditions of the regulations.

With this measure, the municipality provides financial support in monthly installments, totaling ten monthly payments, corresponding to two-fifths of the national minimum wage. Applicants, who are Portuguese nationals, must meet the following requirements: have resided in the municipality of Faro for more than five years; be enrolled in secondary or higher education institutions during the academic year for which they apply; have achieved academic performance in the year immediately preceding the year in which they apply for the scholarship, which cannot be lower than level 4 for 9th grade students and an average of 13 for secondary and higher education students, and must also demonstrate academic performance in all subjects; belong to a household with a monthly per capita income no higher than the national minimum wage in effect at the beginning of the calendar year to which the application relates; and not receive any scholarship or equivalent subsidy granted by any institution for the same academic year.

Candidates from Portuguese-speaking countries or cities may qualify for a scholarship, provided they meet the following requirements, under penalty of exclusion: they must be enrolled in a higher education institution in the municipality of Faro and reside in the municipality of Faro in the year of enrollment and application for the scholarship.

The application form and the Faro Municipality Scholarship Regulations are available on the municipality's website (www.cm-faro.pt – “education” area) and at the Education Division of the Department of Social Development and Education (Praça José Afonso, 1, in Faro), where more information about the process can be obtained. Applications must be submitted to the Education Division of the City Council from November 1st to 30th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on the last day they must be submitted by 1:00 pm.
