Renovation of the Urban Center of São Brás de Alportel Moves Forward

The second phase of the Requalification of the Urban Center of the Town of São Brás de Alportel covers the streets António Rosa Brito, Dr. Silva Nobre and Virgílio Coelho, with an investment of half a million euros.

The launch of the competition for the execution of the 2nd phase of Requalification of the Urban Center of the Village of São Brás de Alportel was unanimously approved at a council meeting on January 14th. This is a municipal investment that continues the municipality's strategy to modernize and make public spaces accessible to all, regardless of their mobility limitations, boost the dynamics of the local economy and improve the quality of life of the people of São Brás.

The works, which in this second phase will focus on the south, on Ruas António Rosa Brito, Dr. Silva Nobre and Virgílio Coelho, thus continue this stage of the urban renewal strategy, which began in 2023, with the 1st phase of Requalification of the Urban Center that renovated the arteries surrounding the Municipal Market, Ruas Boaventura Passos, 25 de abril, Silva Nobre (north) and Bernardo de Passos, inaugurated in June of last year.

For this 2nd phase of Requalification of the Urban Center of the Village of São Brás de Alportel, the total cost of the project is estimated at 489,122.79 euros, with financial execution expected to be spread between 2025 and 2026. The proposed works include intervention in the replacement of pedestrian and road paving; in the rainwater drainage network, in plantings and non-plant coverings; in urban furniture; in the water supply network; in the replacement of existing public lighting and in road signage.

Guided by the experience gained during the implementation of the 1st phase, the municipality intends to implement the best solutions for the benefit of the community during the work.

It should be noted that this project is part of a comprehensive urban renewal strategy, which began with the creation of a ring of circular roads around the town, followed by the renovation of the entrances (south, east, west, and north). Subsequently, priority was given to intervention in the town center, with the redevelopment of Largo de São Sebastião and adjacent streets (north and south): Rua Gago Coutinho and Avenida da Liberdade. This was followed by the Urban Center redevelopment plan, with the first phase, around the Municipal Market, completed in early 2024. The second phase of this redevelopment is now underway, focusing on the southern area of the first phase, followed by Jardim Carrera Viegas and the surrounding streets.

At the same time, the Great Network of Accessible Tours continues to expand and branch out so that the Village belongs to Everyone.

This ambitious redevelopment project aims to modernize and enhance the village, focusing on improving quality of life, increasing water efficiency, expanding accessibility, boosting and making traditional commerce more attractive, as well as enhancing safety and orderly traffic and parking, in addition to creating better green and leisure spaces.
