The start of the 2024/2025 school year in the municipality of Olhão was marked today by the Mayor at Basic School No. 4. In a recently renovated building, offering the best possible working conditions for students, teachers, and teaching assistants, Mayor António Miguel Pina welcomed the entire school community and outlined the course of action.
Accompanied by the councilor responsible for Education, Elsa Parreira, by the councilor responsible for Public Works, Ricardo Calé, by the director of the Prof. Paula Nogueira School Group, Mafalda Guerreiro, and by the administrator of AmbiOlhão, Carlos Martins, António Miguel Pina made a point of delivering to some of the guardians and children present, the school supplies kit offered by the Municipality, also highlighting the offer of a backpack and/or bag by the municipal company AmbiOlhão, thus raising awareness of the issue of "water scarcity, which should be present in everyone's awareness from a very young age".
"The backpack is a way to convey the message about climate change to future generations," António Miguel Pina emphasized to the parents of the boys in a first-grade class at EB Nº4. He also mentioned the support provided by the Municipality, which provides all the necessary materials for the students' daily lives, as well as workbooks. The 1,740 primary school students and their families thus receive significant support from the Municipality, helping to minimize education expenses at the start of another school year.
And because parents don't always have a place to leave their children during the 'long holidays,' especially in a region oriented towards tourism and where many parents can't take summer vacations, the Municipality, in collaboration with the AI9.PT association, created an innovative initiative that António Miguel Pina highlighted again today: "Playing Full Time." Aimed at preschool and primary school children, it's not just an extension of the school day; it's an opportunity for children to explore and develop their skills in a safe and stimulating environment.
