Internal administration approves installation of video surveillance system in Vilamoura

On March 21st, the order was approved, signed by the office of the Secretary of State for Internal Administration, which approves the installation and use of a video surveillance system in public spaces in Vilamoura.

Comprising 49 cameras, the system will be installed in areas adjacent to Vilamoura Marina and its access points, serving as an auxiliary and complementary tool for security forces. Its goal is to increase the perception of security among residents and workers, as well as visitors to Vilamoura who choose it as a vacation destination.

The video surveillance system will operate 24/7, 24 hours a day. Audio capture and recording will not be permitted, only image capture, as the equipment will be operated to effectively safeguard privacy and security in public spaces.

The National Republican Guard will be responsible for monitoring and processing images, with Loulé City Council responsible for its installation, through a public tender estimated at around 900 thousand euros, which will be launched soon.

In a second phase, the two entities intend to continue implementing public video surveillance systems in Quarteira and Almancil, with analysis and verification work already underway on the locations for their implementation, in conjunction with the parish councils.
