Applications open in Loulé

Applications are now open for the APE/ Loulé Municipal Council grand prize for chronicles and literary scat.

Applications have started for another edition of what is already a reference in Portuguese literature, the Grand Prize for Chronicles and Literary Dispersal, established by the Portuguese Writers Association (APE) and the Loulé City Council.

In this edition, the 10th, works published in book form and in their first edition in 2024, in Portuguese, by a Portuguese author, in the fields of chronicles and literary works collected in a volume will be admitted to the competition. 

Five copies of each published book will be sent to APE (Rua de São Domingos à Lapa, 17 – 1200-832 Lisbon) by March 8th, for the Jury members and the Loulé Municipal Library. 

The Jury will have thirty days to deliberate, drawing up a final report containing the grounds for the choice made. 

The Grand Prize will be awarded to the winning author at a public ceremony in Loulé, as part of the Municipal Week Celebrations, which take place in May. 

The winner receives a cash prize of 15 thousand euros. 

Year after year, this award has established itself in the national context and achieved undeniable notoriety, thanks also to the distinguished names: Tolentino Mendonça (“What are the clouds”), Rui Cardoso Martins (Stand Up the Defendant) Mário Cláudio (“The Wandering Soul”), Pedro Mexia (“Out There”), Mário de Carvalho (“What I heard in the apple barrel”), Lídia Jorge (“In All Senses”), José Eduardo Agualusa (“The Most Beautiful End of the World”), Miguel Esteves Cardoso (“Independent Demented”) and Dulce Maria Cardoso (“Unauthorized Autobiography 2”).
