The need for social and cultural activities led to the acquisition of the amusement park land in the early 1930s by the Tourism Initiative Commission. Construction then began on the beach district, tennis court, and esplanade, which included a stage for performances. This stage would later be called the "Dancing Esplanade," which, by the 1940s, became the "Ocean Esplanade."
Over time, more and more sports, music, and dance events began to take place, leading to the Esplanada's peak around 1954, with a performance by fado singer Amália Rodrigues. After this period, the venue's degradation due to poor management led to its abandonment in the 1970s, with Mr. Agostinho Maia being the last person to operate the bar, which was destroyed in 1984.
"This is a historic space that we intend to return to the people, without any obstacles. We want Praça do Mar to be a pleasant space, allowing for a connection between the square and the sea, with greater quality and safety for people," says Telmo Pinto, President of the Quarteira Parish Council.
