Palácio Gama Lobo hosts the exhibition “Aligned by the same wool” in Loulé

The exhibition “Alinhados pela Mesma Lã” (Aligned by the Same Wool) is presented today, October 10th, at 6 pm, at Palácio Gama Lobo, in Loulé. It brings together the work of seven textile artists developed in the context of an artistic residency.

Curated by Vasco Águas and with the technical support of Paula Neves Têxtil, this exhibition embodies a project that aims to promote the wool of the Algarve Churra sheep, an indigenous Portuguese breed and the only one originating from the south of the country.

For several months, the artists worked with Algarve Churra wool, covering the entire process, from shearing to washing to spinning, reinterpreting traditional techniques, combining knowledge, and exploring new approaches in contemporary textiles. The result is a diverse exhibition that combines innovation, tradition, and ecological awareness, highlighting the artistic and economic potential of this local resource.

The "Alinhados pela Mesma Lã" (Aligned by the Same Wool) residence is part of the Municipality's strategy to enhance endogenous resources, which involved initiatives developed in collaboration with Algarchurra – the Algarve Churra Sheep Breeders Association. Although perfectly adapted to the Algarve ecosystem, the breed has been neglected due to lower profitability factors, currently ranking among the least represented in the country.

The project promoted dialogue between producers, creators and trainers, creating bridges between traditional know-how and contemporary artistic expression, with the aim of strengthening sustainability and local identity.

The exhibition will be open until November 22nd, and is open to visitors from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free.
